The Designer:
Viva Sage Thabethe, aka the Dandy Artist, is a self-taught photographer, artist, and designer. Born and raised in Soweto, Johannesburg, he learned to see art in his everyday life. He is inspired by South African culture and embraces the boldness of African art. Viva Sage uses the African narrative to create artworks that not only represent his roots but also value heritage, intended to preserve traditions and educate the next generation. He currently lives in Belgium, where the winter is dark and grey. Seeking to feel at home and fuelled by a lack of the familiar, he sought to introduce his bold, colourful art and engage with people through his work.
The Design:
"Isibusiso Sabaphansi '' means “a blessing from my ancestors”. It represents Viva Sage’s creativity, inherited from his clan elders, through which, he shares the beauty of Africa. The design was inspired by rural life and memories of his grandmother making “ukhamba”, traditional African pottery. The colours evoke the African landscape and traditional arts. Carrying a rich heritage, this high-quality throw signifies craftsmanship and proud cultural tradition, beautifully woven together to bring you an authentic connection to your own African story.
